Really Rawsome Oatmeal Cookies

Really Rawsome Oatmeal Cookies

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup dried raisins
  • 1/2 cup raw walnuts coarsely chopped
  • ¼ cup of raw agave or honey
  • 2 apples grated
  • ½ cup of macadamia nuts finely ground- (leave out a dozen to chunk up and put in the batter)
  • ½ cup cashew nuts finely ground – (leave out a dozen to chunk up and put in the batter)
  • ½ teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

Place oats  in a food processor and pulse two short bursts. If you don’t have a food processor, use a blender. Transfer the oats to a mixing bowl and add the dates, raisins, walnuts agave or honey and apples and mix the batter well. Set aside.

In a coffee grinder grind the macadamia’s and cashews until they resemble a silky flour. Add to the batter and stir in.  On a mesh dehydrator sheet shape the batter. Keep in mind that the thicker you shape the cookies the longer they take to dehydrate. Dehydrate the cookies at 110 degrees until they reach your preferred texture, around 12 hours.

May you be blessed,

Bobby

    Hi Bobby,

I am surprised that you mix oats with walnuts. It is like to mix protein and starch together. I have learned it is not a good food combination!!

    Hi Sara,

We can thank Dr. Hay for helping us to have a better understanding of food combining. His diet has been around a long time and has been adjusted by many different teachers, physicians and health advocates. Dr. Hay and most others who adhere to the food combining principles believe that taking foods in a natural form and not mixing proteins and starches at the same meal is the way to ultimate health. I feel that they have a great point, but the problem is, its based on what I believe to be faulty science. They used Pavlovs experiments with dogs which showed that starches are digested in about two hours, proteins are digested in about four hours but a protein – starch mixture can still be digesting 13 hours later, food taken on top can lead to fermentation and toxic by-products putting strain on the system.

I think this experiment has some flaws and find it somewhat difficult to relate to humans, as we have a much more alkaline system than a dog and we also have salava enzymes which are made to handle the carbohydrates and fats in a much more efficent manner.

Saying that, I find myself agreeing with much of the theory of proper food combing especially in that we should always be aware of what our bodies are telling us, so therefore having an understanding of proper food combing has many benefits

As for me I will listen to my body and of course never make oatmeal cookies a main course. a few months ago I wrote a letter to a friend that explained my current take on food combining. Here is the link. Sara thanks for writing and feel free to express your understanding and experience with food combining whenever you have the time
